The Strangest Secret PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 04 February 2009

Hello Play Big Community!

I recently purchased The Strangest Secret by one of the founding fathers of the personal development movement, Earl Nightingale. Mr. Nightingale recorded The Strangest Secret in 1964 and it remains one of the most powerful motivational doctrines in existence. I would like to share some of his philosophies with you in this blog.

“Success is the progressive realization of a worthy ideal.”

“Instead of competing, all we have to do is create.”

“People with goals succeed because they KNOW where they are going.”

“We become what we think about. A man’s life is what his thoughts make of it.”

“Human beings can alter their lives by altering their attitudes of mind.”

“Our doubts are traitors, and make us lose the good we oft might win, by fearing to attempt.”

“The human mind is the last great, unexplored continent on Earth.”

“The things we get for nothing , we can never replace.”

“You’re guided by your mind.”

“The architect of the universe didn’t build a stairway to nowhere.”

You’ve got to love the classics!

Great quotes from Vince Lombardi PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 29 January 2009

Hello Play Big Community!

I feel like sharing some quotes from the legendary leader and coach of the Green Bay Packers, Vince Lombardi. In 1959, Lombardi was voted NFL coach of the year. For the next eight years, the Packers were in a class by themselves, winning five NFL championships and Super Bowls I and II. Here are some of the quotes that defined his legend:

“Winning is not a sometime thing; it’s an all time thing. Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.”

“There is no room for second place. There is only one place in my game, and that’s first place.”

“And in truth, I’ve never known a man worth his salt who in the long run, deep down in his heart, didn’t appreciate the grind, the discipline.”

“The quality of a person’s life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavor.”

“Winning is not everything, but making the effort to win is.”

“The spirit, the will to win and the will to excel – these are the things that will endure and these are the qualities that are so much more important than the events themselves.”

“Leaders are made, they are not born. They are made by hard effort, which is the price which all of us must pay to achieve any goal that is worthwhile.”

Find Your Passion! PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 28 January 2009

Hello Play Big Community!

The legendary Founder of Walmart, Sam Walton, once said that THE key to success is passion. I could not agree more. If you have ever been passionate or “in the zone” in any endeavor, then you know the feeling of invincibility that comes with the territory.

Without passion, many people’s lives become wandering generalities void of purpose and meaning. I truly believe that we all have a unique gift or form of genius that we are meant to share with the world. I once read that there are eight types of genius. Suffice it to say, all eight of these genius types are not measured by standardized tests or SAT’s.

I recently watched an amazing video on YouTube about a brilliant inventor named Woody Norris who was speaking at the TED conference in 2004. Woody Norris didn’t graduate from college, yet holds 44 patents and 15 high tech inventions. Did Woody find his passion? You better believe he did! Would standardized tests have recognized his unique gifts? I seriously doubt they would have.

Have you ever been frustrated about not being where you want to be in your professional career or life in general? If you answered yes, consider that frustration a gift. Frustration precedes breakthrough. Frustration is our emotional system telling us that we can be, do and have more in our lives. In life we are either growing or dying. If you are comfortable, then you certainly aren’t growing and therefore closer to dying because all growth occurs outside of our comfort zones.

I also believe that if every person on Earth were doing what they were meant to do with their unique gifts, we would experience an unprecedented shift in collective consciousness. So, search your soul and determine what you were put here to do and do that thing in a world class manner!

Keys to Developing Rapport PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 28 January 2009

When was the last time you purchased a product or service from someone you did not like? Have you ever felt awkward entering a room full of strangers? Would you like to have more business and better relationships?

If any of these questions resonate with you, then the subject of rapport development may be right down your alley. Webster’s defines rapport as a harmonious relationship. Rapport is ultimately the ability to speak someone else’s language and see the world through their paradigm. There are three keys steps to developing rapport with colleagues, prospects and family members.

Step 1 – Understanding

The first step in building rapport with someone is understanding him or her. As Stephen Covey says in his bestseller The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, “Seek to understand before being understood”. Step into the other person’s world and see the world from their point of view. Understand that perception is reality and we all have different belief systems that are neither right nor wrong.

Three Degrees of Separation PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 26 January 2009

Hello Play Big Community!

I absolutely LOVE meeting new people! To me, meeting a new person is like pulling the lever on a slot machine in Las Vegas. You never know who they know and who you will eventually meet through their network if you take the time to develop a relationship.

It has been said that we are only six degrees of separation from knowing everyone on the planet. It has been my personal experience as a lover of networking that we are probably only three degrees of separation from everyone on the planet. I submit that regardless of the type of business in which you operate, networking should be your part-time business. I consistently schedule networking events weeks in advance as a routine part of my business and personal life.

Presence Exercise PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 21 January 2009

Hello Play Big Community!

I would like to share with you a very powerful exercise that we have learned from Blair Singer. It’s called the Presence Exercise.

The Presence Exercise only requires two people; you and any other person. All that is required is for both of you to sit in a chair and face each other with your knees touching. Without saying a word, look into the other persons eyes without looking away for 60 seconds. Ideally, you want to have someone time you, but it is not imperative.

For many people it is the longest, most uncomfortable 60 seconds of their life. For others it turns into a gigglefest! The power of the exercise is becoming aware of what your Little Voice says as you stare into the eyes of another person. One of the first realizations you may make is that you have never engaged in such activity with the people with whom you are the most intimate. Imagine that?? Perhaps you have been married for many years, but have never spent 60 seconds in silence looking into your partners eyes?

At Blair’s two day event in Scottsdale, we did this exercise for two minutes. It’s amazing to notice the emotions that can come to surface SO quickly! The first time I did the exercise I found myself smiling and blinking. The second time I got over the giggles and blinked less frequently. The third time I was really able to relax and I turned into an Oak.

Jason Tyne and Blair did the Presence Exercise for 20 minutes at The Ranch in Texas. They both admitted that it was an amazing spiritual experience and there is a major breakthrough at the 15 minute point. You can also do the exercise with yourself in the mirror. I know it may sound a little weird, but it is an incredible way to get in control of your Little Voice and REALLY connect with who you are.

The next time you are feeling stressed, anxious or unsure of yourself, go into the bathroom, close the door and do this exercise for 5 minutes in silence. Notice what your Little Voice says and journal the process. I think you will be amazed at what or WHO you discover…

Ascending the Power Model PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 21 January 2009

Hello Play Big Community!

How would you like to be in a position of Power in your business where everything was systematized, cash flow was excessive and you could sell at any time if you so desired? My intuition suggests that most of you answered a resounding “YES!” to such a rhetorical question.

Well, there is a formula to move from start-up to a position of Power and we have the formula. Does Coke have a secret formula? You bet they do! SalesaPartners Atlanta has a formula as well and I’m going to give you enough right here to wet your appetite.

Phase I – INVISIBLE
If you and I were to start a business today, we would be invisible to the outside world. The first thing you must do in this stage is serve the market place. Remember when AOL launched in the late nineties? You couldn’t go ANYWHERE without seeing a rack of free trial cd’s. They were serving the market place. In the same spirit, we do a free workshop every Tuesday morning at our office to serve, educate and create exposure.

Phase II - CHAOS
Have you ever been in a state of chaos in your business? Have you ever NOT been in a state of chaos in your business? In this stage your sales look like a roller coaster. One month you are king of the hill and the next month you are debating closing the doors. Can you relate? The key (and hardest thing to do) is spending to promote your business. You cannot save your way to prosperity. You must let the world know you are in business.

Phase III - NORMAL OPERATIONS
Only about 10-20% of start-ups make it to this stage. 80% of all start-ups fail with the first five years. In the Normal phase, you want to focus on management and systems. Without systems, your business will only run as long as you are there. It’s called the “45 Magnum Test”. If you were shot dead, how long would your business continue to run?

Phase IV - ABUNDANCE
In this phase you actually have an abundance of time, money and energy. The temptation that you must resist is going out and spending a lot of money on toys, bigger house and bigger office. You want to pay down the debt that was incurred promoting your business. You may also have a (good) tax problem to deal with so don’t go nuts with your discretionary income!

Phase V – POWER
The final phase is why we got into business in the first place. People come to us to buy. We don’t have to sell. Everything is systematized and the business runs whether we are there or not. This is the time to be weary of arrogance and believing that you are invincible. It may also be a great time create a power shift (replace yourself) or sell the business and start over. Hey, once you’ve mastered the formula, why not do it again?

Respect: Transcending Race, Religion and Politics PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 19 January 2009

Hello Play Big Community!

We are less than one week away from one of the most significant Presidential inaugurations in American history. On Tuesday January 20th, 2009, President Elect Barack Obama will be sworn in as the first African American President. Obama and his campaign team generated a groundswell of grassroots support from perhaps the most diverse group of constituents ever amassed by a Presidential candidate. This historic event compels and inspires me to write about the importance of an issue near and dear to my heart: Respect.

Regardless of our race, religion or political persuasion, it is imperative that we respect one another’s beliefs if we are going to survive. We don’t have to love, or like each other for that matter, but we must respect each other. Dr. Wayne Dyer says that THE most dangerous human emotion is the need to be right. Think about it – aren’t all wars waged over the need to be right?

Whether you voted for Barack Obama or not, you have to be inspired by the diversity of people from different races and religions who voted him into the White House. It gives me great hope that our nation has put racism behind us and has embraced the fact that we are all human and ultimately want the same things: love, appreciation and RESPECT!

Respect yourself, respect your neighbors, respect the Earth.
